Tótem, de Lila Avilés, avanza en la carrera rumbo al Oscar

La Academia de Cine de los Estados Unidos dio a conocer su shortlist a Mejor película extranjera, donde Tótem, de Lila Avilés, que representa a México, avanza en la carrera rumbo al Premio Oscar 96.
Con varias decenas de premios internacionales, incluyendo el Ojo a Mejor película en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia, Tótem tuvo su estreno a finales del mes de noviembre y aunque no le fue bien en la cartelera comercial, tuvo buenos números en la Cineteca Nacional, donde se coló en el top 10 con tan solo unos días de haber estrenado.
Tótem nos cuenta la historia de una niña que debe afrontar un duelo adelantado, al tiempo que vemos como cada miembro de su familia afronta, de diversas maneras, la inminente muerte de uno de sus familiares.
El segundo filme de Avilés busca quedar en la terna final que será anunciada el 26 de enero de 2024, entre sus competidores se encuentran cintas como The Promised Land, de Dinamarca; Fallen Leaves, de Finlandia; Perfect Days, de Japón; y The Zone of Interest, del Reino Unido.
Lila Avilés no estará sola en la carrera rumbo al Oscar, la acompaña la cineasta tapatía Rita Basulto, quien con su película Humo, avanzó en la categoría de Cortometraje de animación. Humo nos cuenta la dura historia de Daniel, un niño que viaja en tren rumbo a un oscuro destino en medio de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, serán su inocencia y su imaginación las únicas herramientas para escapar de su terrible destino.
Cabe resaltar que en el terreno latinoamericano, la cineasta chilena Mayte Alberdi también continúa su camino rumbo a los Premios de la Academia y busca una nominación más como documental para emular lo vivido con El agente topo, ahora con su largometraje La memoria infinita.
La ceremonia de los Oscars 96 se llevará a cabo el 10 de marzo en el Teatro Dolby de Los Angeles y serán televisados en más de 200 países.
